My Year in Books - 2025

cover image

Here’s what I read in 2025 - in order of what I liked most (highest rated first):

[Yugandhar]

cover image Author: Sawant, Shivaji
My rating: ★★★★★

2. The Thinking Machine: Jensen Huang, Nvidia, and the World’s Most Coveted Microchip

cover image Author: Witt, Stephen
My rating: ★★★★★

A pacy and exciting read filled with unconventional wisdom and unique perspectives from Jensen Huang. Not a hagiography. Reminded me of Shoe Dog in thrill.

”Technical debt is the battle scar of survivors.”

3. Algorithms to Live By: The Computer Science of Human Decisions

cover image Author: Christian, Brian
My rating: ★★★★★

Brilliantly shows how computer science algorithms can guide everyday decisions. Concepts are insightful and explained simply. It deepens the belief that programming computers teaches you how to think.

4. The Art of Batting: The Craft of Cricket’s Greatest Run Scorers – WILLIAM HILL SPORTS BOOK OF THE YEAR NOMINEE 2025

cover image Author: Kimber, Jarrod
My rating: ★★★★★

A delightful ode to the art of batting. Packed with engrossing anecdotes & rich cricketing lore. Sharp analysis across eras, bowling attacks, and batting styles. You may not agree with every ranking, but the stories will keep you hooked.
A gem for every cricket lover. Specially if you have loved reading Jarrod’s essays.

5. Bahut Door, Kitna Door Hota Hai

cover image Author: Kaul, Manav
My rating: ★★★★★

6. An Immense World: How Animal Senses Reveal the Hidden Realms Around Us

cover image Author: Yong, Ed
My rating: ★★★★★

“An Immense World” truly lives up to its name - opening your eyes to the vast, unseen ways animals perceive the world. It gives you a new lens to appreciate your own senses and the richness around you. It enriches your perspective. And your Umwelt.

7. Deewar Mein Ek Khirkee Rahati Thee (3rd)(3rd) (Hindi Edition)

cover image Author: Shukla, Vinod Kumar
My rating: ★★★★★

8. Mistborn: The Final Empire(Mistborn, #1)

cover image Author: Sanderson, Brandon
My rating: ★★★★★

Brilliant and unputdownable!
Mistborn is a whirlwind adventure with heart-pounding action and banter that’s pure gold. The only downside? It ends. But as Sanderson so perfectly puts it:

’Going?' Vin asked. 'But you just got in!' 'That’s the funny thing about arriving,' he winked. 'Once you’re there, the only thing left is to leave.'

9. Mansarovar - Vol. 2; Short Stories by Premchand

cover image Author: Premchand, Munshi
My rating: ★★★★☆

10. Immune: a Journey into the Mysterious System that Keeps You Alive

cover image Author: Dettmer, Philipp
My rating: ★★★★☆

A very simple yet powerful explanation of the human immune system. The book makes you marvel at how our body constantly fights off enemies. It honestly feels like a miracle that we don’t die every minute. An excellent introduction to the immune system and its fascinating intricacies.

11. The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Caused an Epidemic of Mental Illness

cover image Author: Haidt, Jonathan
My rating: ★★★★☆

“The Anxious Generation” delivers a deeply researched, unsettling look at the damage addictive social media inflicts on children and teens. Like cigarettes in the ‘70s, its harm is underplayed today—will we regret it in 20 years? Only time will tell.

12. Meditations on First Philosophy

cover image Author: Descartes, René
My rating: ★★★☆☆

Reads a bit bland. Arguments being repeatedly derived from God’s existence feel tedious.

13. Hind Swaraj or Indian Home Rule

cover image Author: Gandhi, Mahatma
My rating: ★★★☆☆

Hind Swaraj is a worthwhile read to understand Mahatma Gandhi’s ideas on self-rule and local governance. Some ideas may feel absurd, but they need to be viewed in the context of a book written over 100 years ago. What stands out is the sharp clarity in Gandhi’s thinking, even when one disagrees with his conclusions.

14. The Hero with a Thousand Faces

cover image Author: Campbell, Joseph
My rating: ★★★☆☆

“The Hero with a Thousand Faces” is an eye-opener in how global mythologies echo the same core themes. Loved the framing of mythology as collective psychology—not to be judged by historical accuracy, but by what societies choose to believe. Myths reflect the values people want to live by, and the heroes they aspire to become.

The constant hopping between myths, though rich, could’ve been more coherent.

15. Ways of Seeing

cover image Author: Berger, John
My rating: ★★★☆☆

“Ways of Seeing” offers a compelling lens on how we view art, especially paintings and images, tracing their evolution through history. While art enthusiasts may appreciate it more deeply, I found the final chapter—drawing parallels between classical oil paintings and modern advertising—particularly enriching.

My rating: ★★★☆☆

17. Thinking In Systems: A Primer

cover image Author: Meadows, Donella H.
My rating: ★★★☆☆

"Thinking In Systems" offers valuable frameworks and perspectives for understanding and shaping teams, systems, and projects. The flow of ideas is a bit disjointed which hinders engagement. It could have been more compelling with a better structure.

cover image Author: सांकृत्यायन, राहुल
My rating: ★★☆☆☆

19. Work: A History of How we spend our Time

cover image Author: Suzman, James
My rating: ★★☆☆☆

"Work" struggles with clarity and purpose, making it feel stretched and unfocused. While it offers a few interesting facts, it lacks the depth and density of insights you'd expect from a book in this genre. Ultimately, it fails to hold your attention.
